Is your investment portfolio not performing as you expected? I know mine isn’t. This seems to be a problem for a lot of investors right now as high interest rates hamper the growth of traditional assets like stocks. As such, I have increasingly seeking out alternative investments to help diversify my portfolios.
In this article we are going to look at the 5 best alternative investment platforms I have been using; Yieldstreet, Streitwise, Rocket Dollar, Masterworks, and Vinovest, and examine why I think they are a little bit better than the rest.
Best overall alternative investment platform – Yieldstreet
If you want to diversify your portfolio with a huge range of alternative assets, Yieldstreet is likely your best choice. Because, they offer access to a range of alternative investment funds, including (but not limited to) real estate, art, legal finance, corporate debt, and private equity.
Yieldstreet’s huge range of funds is really what sets it apart from its competitors (where else can you invest in lawsuits and real estate in one place?).
Bear in mind, Yieldstreet is restricted to Accredited Investors only. So, if you don’t fit this category, you still have the next four platforms to explore.
Best tax-efficient alternative investment platform – Rocket Dollar
Rocket Dollar lets you invest your retirement savings in a wide range of alternative assets, such as real estate, private equity and startups (getting in early), precious metals, and cryptocurrencies, in addition to traditional investments like stocks and bonds.
They offers both Traditional and Roth Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) as well as Solo 401(k) plans. This means that you can take advantage of alternative investment opportunities within the constraints of retirement account regulations and, importantly, with its tax benefits.
Best real estate investment platform – Streitwise
Real estate funds have long been a favorite alternative investment (and one of the safest). Streitwise focuses exclusively on commercial real estate and multi-family properties, letting you to invest in large-scale, income-producing properties across the U.S.
The focus on income-generation is one of Streitwise’s strengths, with the platform reporting an inflation beating 2022 dividend yield average of 7.2%.
p.s., Another benefit is its low investment minimum (starting from about US$3,500 depending on the funds you are interested in).
Best art investment platform – Masterworks
I may be preaching to the converted with this one. But, if you don’t know already, Masterworks purchases artworks from blue chip artists and then divides ownership into SEC-registered shares, and releases them to its members.
Two things make Masterworks the best pure art investment platform:
The first is the amount of artworks that it offers on its platform. there are hundreds that can be bought and sold into via its secondary marketplace, while at the same time, the platform is adding about 5 to 10 new artworks a month.
And the second is Masterworks ability to acquire artwork below its appraised market value. The company’s curators must have some great contacts in the art world to swing some of the deals it offers its members. This quality is vital for investors to maximize their gain on investments.
Best wine investment platform – Vinovest
Wine and whiskey enjoy a low correlation with traditional assets which can make them immune to the ups and downs of the stock market.
Vinovest offers a huge range of fine wines curated by master sommeliers (and data analytics) for investment. Investors can monitor their wine investments and track their portfolio’s performance through Vinovest’s online platform or mobile app.
All their offerings are stored in climate controlled warehouses, but you can request a bottle (or entire casks) to be sent to you at any time if you wanted to sample the goods or look after them yourself. Otherwise, Vinovest offers a marketplace where you can sell your wine holdings to other collectors or investors when you choose to liquidate your investment.
