How to Ace the Masterworks Phone Interview?

When you apply to become a member of Masterworks, the final step is to complete a phone interview with one of their financial advisors. This is a step that you may not have encountered when you have signed up to other investing platforms, so it can be a little daunting.

However, while it may be referred to as a “phone interview,” it’s more of a “conversation”. During the phone call, the advisor will simply ask you whether you are typically a conservative, balanced, or aggressive investor. They will also provide you with information about Masterworks and the artworks currently on offer. It is also an opportunity for any questions you have to be answered.

Even though you will not find the phone call daunting, you will want to prepare so that you can make the most of this final step in the sign up process.

Tips to Ace the Masterworks Phone Interview:

  • You should browse the currently available artworks on the Masterworks Portal (or via the email that the advisor will send you once you have booked a phone call). It is important that you take note of which artworks you prefer so that you can compare them to the suggestions from the advisor during the phone call. Be prepared for your preferences to be different to what the advisor suggests because they will be using their expertise in how to construct a properly diversified art portfolio. However, if you have your heart set on certain artworks, don’t be afraid to say so.
  • You will want to decide how much of your total net worth you want to devote to Blue Chip artworks as this is a subject that will come up during the conversation. Will it be 10%?, 15%?, 20%?, etc? Again, the advisor may suggest a different number after gaining knowledge of your long term investing goals, so be open minded about their suggestion.
  • Write down any questions you have as bullet points and have them ready before your phone call. Additionally, it may be a good idea to have a pen and paper next to you during the phone call so that you can note down any new questions that come to mind.
  • Set an alarm to go off 5 minutes before your scheduled call. Use this time to get in front of a computer so that you can bring up the currently available artworks as it will be helpful to have this list in front of you during the phone call.
